I haven't flown since a troublesome attempt at it just after I first hit print.

As the plane was starting up I thought to hear a warble in the near engine, and I at once put up a huge fuss until the copilot came back to reassure me. He heard it too, and the plane was shut down and all the passengers removed. Turned out to be something to do with the fuel feed. I got a refund and took a train.

The head stewardess seemed very disturbed by the whole incident. Struck me as odd, as my assessment of her personality was one of great inner toughness. I remember her especially because she was the first person to recognize my name as an author.

I'm not so great with names myself, but I recall hers because it was so unusual. Louise Baltimore.
